Description: 

This training course in “Drama in the primary classroom” aims to develop in teachers professional competences.  We give importance to practical workshops with emphasis on active participation, introducing techniques and ideas to help teachers to encourage creative and challenging experiences for pupils in drama classes. This course includes practical lessons, field works, thinking tools, cultural visits, technical visits, meeting with experts, Lecture & Discussion on the Teaching of Drama in Italian Schools, 1 or 2 day visits to primary schools, observe lessons in various subjects and opportunity for discussion with teachers, opportunity to exchange experiences with participants from other countries. Many practical tools and materials for trainers will be supplied and at the end certificates will be delivered, as requested in Erasmus Plus Programme.

Objectives

The course aims to provide teachers with:

  • Techniques and ideas for teaching drama;
  • Ideas for using drama and other creative activities to teach English or other subjects
  • An insight into the role of drama in primary education in Italy;
  • An opportunity to exchange ideas and develop links with teachers from other European countries.

Methodology: In the framework of Erasmus Plus Programme, we are going to develop our courses based in both formal and informal education methodologies. We’ll start with an introduction of the new methodology and also with a theoretical approach. In order to stimulate the active participation of them we will use dynamic activities, like:

  • Study cases;
  • Conferences with responsible staff of enterprises;
  • Discussions in the classroom with directors of private institutes;
  • Role-plays;
  • Guidelines;
  • Technical visits to the laboratories and schools.

Programme 

1stDay: Transfer from the airport to accommodation and room allocation. Welcome Meeting. Rules applicable in Italy, information about the city and general information about the Programme. Managing participant’s expectations about the “Drama in the primary classroom” course, walking tour of historic City;

2ndDay: First lesson: Introduction to Italian drama, the leading figures of Italian theater. How to apply the drama in the classroom as a new method of teaching. We speak about the most important Italian and foreign playwrights;

Day visit to a primary school. Observe lessons and opportunity for discussion with teachers;

3rd Day: Second lesson: Workshop on Drama in the classroom. Introduction to the Shakespeare or Luigi Pirandello play to be seen at the Theatre;

4th Day: Educational visit to the City. Attend a Shakespeare or Luigi Pirandello play at the Theatre;

5th Day: Third lesson: Theoretical Lesson about History of Drama. Two internship hours under the direction and guidance of an experienced teacher with whom the participant observes, assists and joins in all aspects of the educational and management process in the host school;

6th Day: Free time for individual research or optional cultural activities;

7th Day: Free time for individual research or optional cultural activities;

8th Day: Fourth lesson: Detailed study of the development of Drama in the primary classroom. Exercitation on teaching practice. How to be a happy teacher using the method of drama in classroom;

9th Day: Full Day of technical and schools visits. Meeting with the directors of some schools where is active the Drama Method. Question Time with students and staff. Meeting with some assistant teachers who work with children with psychomotor problems and use the drama to teach them;

10th Day: Fifth lesson: Workshop: Drama Activities for Teaching English to Young Learners. Workshop: Drama Activities for teaching science to Young Learners;

11th Day: Sixth lesson: Workshop on Drama in the Classroom – Opportunity to exchange experiences with participants from other countries;

12th Day: Evaluation of the Training Course. Certificate Ceremony and overall evaluation meeting with the host organization and the beneficiaries;

13th Day: Free time for individual research or optional cultural activities;

14th Day: Preparing for departure.
